Beach volleyball is fundamentally similar to indoor volleyball: a team scores points by grounding the ball on the opponents’ court, or when the opposing team commits a fault(error or illegal action); consecutive contacts must be made by different players (except after a block touch, when any player may legally contact the ball). Today its just about having fun in the beautiful city of Arnhem in The Netherlands. Here are some fun facts about Arnhem:

Arnhem, the capital of the province of Gelderland, is the greenest city of Europe. This is due to the many large parks (including nature park Sonsbeek), but also to the location on the southern edge of the Veluwe. Arnhem is also known as a fashion city, thanks to the ArtEZ fashion academy and the international ‘Mode Biënnale’ event.

Arnhem played a crucial role during the Second World War. From 17 to 25 September 1944, the “Battle of Arnhem” took place. It was part of Operation Market Garden: a large ground and air offensive by the Allies, focusing on important bridges across Dutch rivers, that provided access to the Western part of the Netherlands and the German Ruhr. The last and most critical objective of the operation, the Rhine Bridge in Arnhem, could not be reached in time. The bridge turned out to be ‘a bridge too far’ making the bridge and the city synonymous with unavoidable defeat. Arnhem gained world-wide attention, which was also bolstered by Cornelius Ryan’s book and the movie by Richard Attenborough from 1977. It is estimated that the loss of this battle prolonged the war by half a year and made the northern part of the Netherlands suffer through a long hunger winter.

Places of interest

Besides the beautiful nature areas around Arnhem, the city centre offers many places of interest such as the Dutch Open Air Museum and the large, modern Burgers’ Zoo. In the renovated ‘Hartenstein’ Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek visitors can experience the Battle of Arnhem for themselves.

Arnhem has a rich history, which is reflected by the 39 medieval cellars under the inner city. The Sint-Eusebiuskerk (or Grote Kerk) is the most important church of Arnhem. It boasts a 39 metre high tower. Arnhem has a bustling nightlife with regional appeal. The Korenmarkt and its direct surroundings are known for their many bars, nightclubs, and other hospitality facilities.

According to the definition from Google, a dark post is the following:

An unpublished post is a status update, link share, video or photo that was never meant to be shared as an organic post. Staying true to its name, it’s never published but is only surfaced as an ad.

Basically, it’s a Facebook post that you control exactly who sees it through ads. If you have seen the main image on this page on Facebook, then that means you have seen one of our dark posts targeting you.

 Why Dark Post?

The purpose of these posts are to create a message for a specific goal without cluttering up the newsfeed for those who would see it as irrelevant. For example, if you’re trying to sell your services and all of your followers already use your services, then it wouldn’t make sense for them to see an ad on their newsfeed for your services. However, you still want to post a message for selling your services to drive sales. This is where dark posts come into play. You can create a dark post with a message to sell your services and use that to advertise to your target market. (source: HostGator)

New Year’s resolutions serve an important purpose. After all, you can’t write a resolution without reflecting on the past. I think New Year’s resolutions should be thought of as a good excuse to put the year you’ve just had into perspective and to explicitly declare what you want for the future.

However, New Year’s resolutions are tricky. When they are too specific or too unachievable, we inevitably abandon them.

I started thinking about my resolutions for this year and I wanted to share them with you. I think they’re applicable to all entrepreneurs, actually. Please note that this isn’t a list of my goals. In my mind, goals are different. They are less about the kind of person I want to be and more specific to figures and numbers. These are my resolutions.

1. Stop listening to my haters.

In our lives, there are individuals who hold us back and who do not have our best interests at heart. Unfortunately, sometimes these individuals are our oldest friends or even our family members. It’s important to recognize when we just need to tune someone out. Make an effort not to engage. Break old patterns. Don’t confide in anyone who isn’t on your team.

2. Embrace a “garbage in, garbage out” mentality.

I am going to try to eliminate the negative thoughts and information that enter my brain and prevent me from moving forward as quickly as possible, including the news.

3. Eat foods that fuel my body and brain.

To be a superstar entrepreneur, you need to have energy. Drinking a lot of coffee shouldn’t be a point of pride. Start each day by drinking warm water with lemon squeezed into it. I know you’ve read the research!

4. Get regular medical checkups.

Preventative medicine is the key to health. I want to continue growing my business, so I’m committed to staying on top of my health.

5. Keep up with the news.

As I’ve written before, staying current is a must for entrepreneurs. You need to know what’s going on in the world to make smart, forward-thinking decisions for your business as well as grow your social network.

6. Be more physically active.

Walk, bike or run — do something. You will have more energy if you do.

7. Be patient.

Being quick to judge has only caused problems for me in both my professional and personal life. Make it a point to get all the facts before forming an opinion in 2015.

8. Have empathy for others.

How much better would the world be if people had more empathy?

9. Give more of my time.

I’ve offered my insight and advice to budding entrepreneurs before, and it was incredibly worthwhile. The person you help will be eternally grateful and you’ll feel great for doing so.

What are your New Year’s resolutions?

Thank you for reading and stay tuned for more!
